World Data Center for Cosmic Rays (WDCCR) was established in 1957, as a part of the activity of the International Geophysical Year (IGY) held in 1957-58, at the Institute of Physical and Chemical Research (RIKEN) to provide with database of cosmic-ray neutron observations in unified formats. The WDCCR was moved to the Solar-Terrestrial Environment Laboratory (STELAB), Nagoya University, in 1991, and data-management works of the WDCCR were carried out through the collaboration with the Department of Environmental Sciences, Ibaraki University in the interval from 1993 to 2009. Since July 2009, whole works of the WDCCR have been done at the Geospace Research Center, STELAB, Nagoya University.

This home page is prepared to open our database to scientific communities which includes world-wide cosmic-ray neutron observations (pressure-corrected and scale adjusted 1 hour counts) since 1953. We open data in three formats; the first one is the traditional 4096-byte "longformat" data, one month data in one line, and the second one is newly introduced "shortformat" data, half-a-day data in one line. Both data have header sections respectively including information for data usage (constant to be added, factors, etc). It is recommended to use data files having either formats given above for research works. The third format is the 80-byte "cardformat" with half-a-day data in one line, but no header section. The data files having this format are currently used for data management in the WDCCR, e.g. to find wrong data values. Data plots in various formats are also available. All the data in this home page can be used freely but we would appreciate it very much to acknowledge the WDCCR in your publications basing on our database (details are given in READ_ME).

What's New

The WDCCR has introduced a new "shortformat" data to improve inconvenience in handling current 4096-byte "longformat" data. Details are given in READ_ME.

New CDR-R, which includes data in the interval from 1953 to 2013, will be available soon. To receive your own copy, please inform us your mailing address.
