Biography
Dr. Takayuki Umeda received his Ph.D. from
Department of Communications and Computer Engineering
at Graduate School of Informatics, Kyoto University in March 2004
under the guidance of Professor Hiroshi Matsumoto and
Professor Yoshiharu Omura.
Dr. Umeda's Ph.D. thesis included a detailed computer simulation study
and numerical techniques for computer simulations,
and was entitled "Study on Nonlinear Processes of Electron Beam Instabilities via Computer Simulations."
During the doctor course (from April 2001 to March 2004)
at Kyoto University, he was awarded the research fellowship
for young scientists from the Japan Society for
the Promotion of Science (JSPS).
Since the completion of his Ph.D.,
he conducted his post-doctoral research at
Institute of Geophysics and Planetary Physics (IGPP),
University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with
Professor Maha Ashour-Abdalla on
mission-oriented computer simulations for Cluster spacecraft.
In October 2005, Dr. Umeda received Young Scientist Award
of the International Union of Radio Science (URSI).
In October 2012, Dr. Umeda received Obayashi Award
of the Society of Geomagnetism and Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences (SGEPSS) in Japan.
He is currently an Assistant Professor at
Solar-Terrestrial Environment Laboratory (STEL), Nagoya University.
His interest is in computational plasma physics, numerical schemes
for computer simulations, plasma waves and instabilities,
and geospace science.
He is a member of SGEPSS, Japan Geoscience Union (JpGU)
